Mental Health Awareness Week – we can all play a part

Mental Health Awareness Week, 9th – 15th May is an opportunity for the whole UK to focus on achieving good mental health. The theme this year is ‘Loneliness’ which has had a huge impact on physical and mental health during the pandemic.

Our connection to other people and our community is fundamental to protecting our mental health and we need to find better ways of tackling the epidemic of loneliness. We can all play a part in this.

So, this Mental Health Awareness Week, we have complied a series of videos to help raise awareness of mental health. Some individuals within the Society have been kind enough to share their personal stories and experiences which can be viewed on our YouTube channel and on the Harpenden for Intermediaries LinkedIn page.

Click on the play button to view each video (please note these videos will not work in Internet Explorer, please view in Chrome). We have a variety of videos including: individuals talking about their own experience of loneliness, the impact stress has played on mental health, the role of Mental Health First Aiders within the Society and our CEO chatting about mental health in the workplace

We also have a couple of videos from employees at Youth Talk. Youth Talk are a St Albans based charity that provides confidential counselling / psychotherapy to 13-25 year-olds who live, work and/or attend school/college in the District of St Albans and surrounding areas. We have a multi-year commitment with them which allows Youth Talk to provide free counselling, both digitally and in person, to young people with mental health issues.

Across this week we encourage you to build meaningful connections with your friends, family, and colleagues.
